Wireless Network Guidelines for the InTouch Welcome Kiosk

This document provides our recommended guidelines regarding your wireless router or WAP for your InTouch Welcome Kiosk.

1. Use a router that is rated at 802.11 N
   
   
2. Use a wireless network that is password protected and that is not the same network as used by your guests.
   
   
3. Check the number of allowed connections. On a router supplied by an internet service provider, this can be as few as 4! Check your router manufacturer's user guide for detailed instructions on how to check this or ask your internet service provider for assistance.
   
   
4. Place your wireless access point or router in a central location.
   
   
5. Barriers between router and kiosks will interfere with the Wi-Fi signal. Putting your router on a high shelf is better than putting the router on the floor. Plaster or brick walls, cabinets or furniture will all weaken the signal. Windows, mirrors, metal file cabinets and stainless steel countertops, may all cause the wireless signal to "bounce".
   
   
6. Install the wireless access point or router at least 1 m (3 feet) away from appliances like microwave ovens, coolers, cordless telephones, baby monitors, electric fans, other motors, and fluorescent lighting.
   
   
7. Consider adjusting the base station antennas to improve performance. Antennas on wireless access points and routers can usually be rotated or otherwise re-pointed to "fine tune" Wi-Fi signals. Follow the specific manufacturer's recommendations for best results.

If using these guidelines you still cannot find a suitable location for your wireless router or wap, there are alternatives. You can replace and upgrade the base station antenna or install a Wi-Fi repeater (often called a "range extender" or "signal booster").
